{"id":3822,"date":"2021-06-25T18:11:01","date_gmt":"2021-06-25T18:11:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/delphis.cetacei.org\/?p=3822"},"modified":"2023-03-05T10:47:11","modified_gmt":"2023-03-05T10:47:11","slug":"twinning-for-the-conservation-of-the-cuma-canyon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oceanomaredelphis.org\/en\/twinning-for-the-conservation-of-the-cuma-canyon\/","title":{"rendered":"Twinning for the conservation of the Cuma Canyon"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-61cdd5b\" data-block-id=\"61cdd5b\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">We are pleased to announce a new collaboration between our association and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.riservaventotene.it\/\" target=\"_blank\">the Isole di Ventotene e Santo Stefano Marine Protected Area<\/a> for the study of cetaceans, and together the recent twinning between it and the<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nettunoamp.it\/\" target=\"_blank\">Regno di Nettuno Marine Protected Area<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-347200f\" data-block-id=\"347200f\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Among other things, the agreement between the two Marine Protected Areas aims to protect the underwater canyon of Cuma, critical habitat of several cetacean species and in particular the sperm whale (<em>Physeter macrocephalus<\/em>).<br>The Mediterranean sperm whale subpopulation is classified as Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.<br>The waters of Ischia and Ventotene and the entire Cuma Canyon system have been recognized by the IUCN as an Important Marine Mammal Area.<\/p><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Siamo lieti di annunciare una nuova collaborazione tra la nostra associazione e l\u2019Area Marina Protetta Isole di Ventotene e Santo Stefano per lo studio dei cetacei, ed insieme il recente gemellaggio tra questa e l\u2019Area Marina Protetta Regno di Nettuno.
